Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes
Why it’s great: Imagine lying back on soft, rippled sand as stars begin to twinkle above you. The Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes, located near Stovepipe Wells, provide an ideal backdrop for night sky viewing. The dunes are far from any major sources of light pollution, and during a full moon, the dunes themselves glow, casting long, dramatic shadows across the landscape.
What to expect: You’ll be able to see plenty of stars, but for the most magical experience, consider visiting during a full moon. Harmony Borax Works
Why it’s great: Located near Furnace Creek, Harmony Borax Works is a fantastic spot for stargazing. The nearby Mustard Canyon Road offers some seclusion from the main park areas, providing an unobstructed view of the night sky. It’s also easily accessible, so you don’t have to venture too far from your car to take in the stars.
